A Royal Town

We've arrived in the coastal town of Haapsalu in north west Estonia. This area has memories of Thailand. If you're an ex-pat Bangkokian you'll see what I mean.

The wooden buildings are of similar architecture to the palaces built for the Thai princes built during the reign of King Chulalongkorn.

It's probably no coincidence as King Chulalongkorn visited Tsar Nicholas ll in St Petersburg in 1897. One of his sons came here for his military training.

The Tsar and his family visited Haapsalu during the summers. The railway station here is not unlike the one at Hua Hin. The covered platform is over 200m to keep Russian royals and nobility dry.
